Haight Ashbury Riot
KPIX Eyewitness News report from February 20th 1968 in San Francisco featuring press conferences with Mayor Joseph Alioto and Police Chief Cahill, who explain their version of events which occured in the Haight Ashbury on February 19th. Alioto refers to a "riot situation in the Haight Ashbury" and rejects any accusations of "police brutality." Cahill refers to what happened as "regrettable" but defends the police use of tear gas. A member of the press recalls his experience of being arrested during these events, citing "numerous instances of brutality."
